REMAINS OF MALA, 30x30" Framed Museum Style - On Collector's Wall

While spending some time in the Egan Gallery in Lahaina one day last month, I was happy to meet a cool young couple that resonated with my work.  They decided to purchase Remains of Mala for their home on the East Coast.

Thanks LJ and Michelle!  It's always nice to see where the work ends up!

MOONRING, Maui, Hawaii 2010

Two nights ago I might have missed the most epic sunset of the year.  By the time I saw it was gearing up to be one of those special light shows by Mother Nature, it was too late and I was unable to get myself in a position to make a composition, so instead, I tried to enjoy it from my car, between putting my head against the steering wheel mumbling "why...why am I in the car right now" and frantically driving to get to a spot in time to make a composition.  As it turned out, by time I got down to the coast north of Mala ramp, the colors were fading away.  By the time I set the camera up on the tripod and took a frame, it was all but gone.  Some of the many onlookers, who were obviously forced by this stunning spectacle to pull over and enjoy the show, were looking at me and surely wondering, he's a little late to get the picture, and they were right!

I went on to finish shooting the 2nd half of a commercial gig - taking photographs of a hotels lit parking lot (!) and tried to put it out of my mind.  As I drove home an hour later, it's as if I could still see the amazing colors, burned into the screen of the sky.  It is summer and the best time of year for sunsets in Maui, so I guess I just better further commit myself through August, I think to myself.

As I return home, I look up to the moon and see a strong ring around the moon.  Not something you see every night!  I happily capture Moonring and my attention is once again in the moment.
