FAQ’s - TOKYO NIGHTS
If you are considering joining me for one of my photography workshops and have read through the descriptions, you may still be left with a few questions. Below are some of the most frequently asked. If your question is still unanswered, there's a form at the bottom of the page - please don't hesitate to contact me.
Why should I join this Tokyo Nights experience with you?
Photography experiences should be more than just guided tours—they should inspire and push you creatively. My mission is not just to showcase mesmerizing locations, but to help you see differently, find your own voice, and come away with images you’re truly proud of.
I believe a great photographer doesn’t always make a great teacher. That’s why I dedicate myself to being both—sharing technical skills, creative insights, and on-the-spot feedback, while creating a space for you to challenge yourself and grow. I’m here to share everything I know, while also guiding you through the unique atmosphere and energy of Tokyo by night.

When do I pay?
A 50% deposit is required to secure your spot. I recommend you make your payment at your earliest convenience to secure your spot. I confirm every payment. Once I receive your deposit or full amount, I’ll email you and confirm your space.
If you haven't received an email confirmation from me within 48 hours, then there may have been an issue with your checkout - email me with your order number and we will finalize the order.
What camera gear should I bring?
This experience will involve navigating busy streets, on-and-off metro travel, and extended walking, so minimizing gear is key. Zoom lenses will be optimal for flexibility, and I highly recommend weather-sealed cameras and lenses to handle the rainy conditions we’ll likely encounter.
I may rent a specific kit for this trip, since my bigger and heavier medium format system might not be optimal. Renting can be a great way to customize your setup to match the demands of this experience. We’ll discuss the specifics 1:1 after you book to ensure your kit is streamlined and perfectly suited for this trip.
A stable tripod is a necessity. As is a cable release.
If you do not already have Neutral Density filters, let me know and I will help you determine what you need. I have a relationship with NISI filters, so may even be able to save you a few dollars.
What should I bring besides camera gear?
Since we’ll be walking a lot, comfortable footwear is a must. Tokyo’s weather in June is mild but humid, so waterproof shoes that are breathable will be ideal. It’s also a rainy season, so I suggest a small travel umbrella—specifically the Blunt Metro umbrella which is perfect for shielding your camera from rain. Lightweight, breathable clothing with a rain-resistant outer layer is recommended.
Should I bring a laptop?
It’s up to you! I’ll have mine for our daily editing and review sessions, but if you’d prefer to keep things light, feel free to wait until you’re back home to dive into post-processing. If you want to edit along the way, bringing your own laptop is a good idea.
Can I bring my spouse?
Due to the extended hours, late-night shooting schedule, and the physical demands of this experience, this workshop is not suitable for non-participating guests or spouses. The focus is on creating and shooting intensively, so it’s best to keep it as a dedicated photography experience.
What if we have to cancel due to weather? What about severe weather?
We won’t be canceling due to weather—we welcome it! The rainy season in Tokyo is what makes this experience so special. Reflections, wet streets, and dynamic conditions create unique opportunities for incredible night shots. Adaptability is key, and some of the best images come from unexpected conditions.
Will we be shooting sunrise?
No, we will not be doing sunrise shoots. Our focus is on the late afternoon and evening hours, capturing the vibrant energy of Tokyo by night. Our sessions will typically run from 3 pm until midnight (or later if the scenes are particularly compelling). Rest and recovery will happen in the morning, allowing us to focus fully on the late-night energy of the city.
What is your refund policy?
Please read the Terms and Conditions for all the details regarding cancellations and refunds. If you have further questions, feel free to contact me.
I’ve added the workshop to my cart—what do I do now?
After filling out the questionnaire and submitting it, click on the “Cart” in the upper-right corner of the page to proceed with checkout. Once I receive your payment, I’ll confirm your booking. If you encounter any issues, just let me know.
