Ambling through countless temples, monasteries, and other sacred grounds at Mt Koya, I took my time to fully immerse myself in the atmosphere of this mystic mountaintop town. The deep, cold quiet of the night was my sole companion, and the stillness around me was almost palpable.
Earlier in the day, the town had been alive with the sound of chanting monks and the satisfied footsteps of pilgrims reaching their final destination. But now, as I made my way through the winding paths of Okunoin Cemetery, the town had come alive differently. It pulsed with a different energy that only comes when a place is finally still.
That's when I introduced light painting again, capturing "Nightwalker" - a rare self-portrait of sorts. With a slow and steady pace, I started the exposure and walked down the path while invisible to the camera. Then, I walked back toward the camera with my red headlamp on, creating a beautiful, streaking light pattern that bounced through the scene.
The magical-looking line added the perfect energy to the image, bringing a specialness to the towering trees and unique path markers that may have been missed without it. As I looked around the stillness of the cemetery and the energy that pulsed within, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of awe and reverence for this sacred place.
