WORKSHOPS & SERVICES

My approach is grounded in the philosophy that being a great photographer doesn’t necessarily make one a great teacher. That’s why I dedicate myself to being both. My mission is to guide you not just through stunning locations but to help you master your craft and see the world with fresh eyes.

I keep my groups small, with no more than 5 participants, ensuring you receive the dedicated guidance and space to explore your creativity. Smaller groups allow for more focused attention, deeper learning, and a more immersive experience, helping you fully embrace the transformative power of photography.

CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT MAKES A WORKSHOP TRULY MEANINGFUL?

WHAT PHOTOGRAPHER’S ARE SAYING:

His workshop was well-organized, and he challenged me to examine the scene with intention and a critical eye, and provided invaluable feedback. The whole exercise challenged my photography goals and approach. Scott also shared his own photography journey, lessons learned, and reflections, and how photography is an integrated component of his life as a way of expression. By the end, I also gained a fresh perspective on other aspects of my life from what I learned.
— Jing Yang - Foster City, California
Scott’s approach to workshops is unlike any others I have seen. The focus is on intention and how to express depth and mood — not on settings and equipment. Worth every second. Then the work in the field cements those concepts so that you begin to see and act like an actual photographer. I came away with striking images that look great on the LCD and will improve with just minor developing adjustments. I highly recommend Scott no matter where you are on your photographic path. I imagine everyone could benefit from his knowledge and especially his approach.
— Randy Root - Telluride, Colorado

After much research of various workshop opportunities, Scott’s professionalism, organization of content, and presentation was so far above what else was available it made for a pretty obvious choice. I honestly believe my photography skills grew 100x after my workshop with Scott. His passion, experience, and knowledge of photography are extremely valuable. The workshop is very well organized to produce the highest and best use of the time. He fits a lot in but makes sure to take the time where it’s needed most. His stories are lesson’s in themselves and his work speaks for itself. I highly recommend investing in a workshop as you won’t be disappointed. I walked away with some amazing images, but more importantly, the skills to replicate similar high-quality images moving forward through future travels. I’m very much looking forward to connecting again with Scott through future workshops and mentorship opportunities!
— Ryan Waddell - Sacramento, California

HOW AN NFL STAR FOOTBALL PLAYER INSPIRED A NEW WORKSHOP

Brandin Cooks first sparked to Reither’s photographs in 2017 and became a collector. The two talked at length about how photography could be a portal to a deeper awareness of life. That way of thinking clicked with Cooks. Once back home, Cooks decided to purchase a camera - a sturdy Leica - and began taking his own photographs. While he was disciplined on learning all the tech skills necessary for getting a good shot, letting loose his artistic self was still proving to be a challenge. So Brandin decided to book Scott for a private multi-day workshop in Maui (and later Oregon) which lead to a much more involved mentoring relationship. Cooks was inspired by how Reither prefers to teach landscape photography from the inside out - starting with an emotional connection to a place and then shaping the composition from there. That way of seeing made a difference to Cooks. It made photography intimately personal and more privately creative.

ARTICLES:

WHY MAKE PHOTOGRAPHS?

It's not just about the camera or the thrill of exploration. It's about expressing and communicating something profound within us, something that words alone cannot convey. It's about tapping into our innate creativity as humans and sharing our unique perspective with the world.

BRINGING ATTENTION TO SPACIOUSNESS

Photography is part science, part art; part technical, part creative; part thinking, part feeling; part form, and part space. If you only develop one side of this, your work will never fully develop, sing, and resonate with a viewer the way you may like.

IGNITING YOUR CREATIVE VISION

A photographic spark, a flicker of inspiration, a moment of brilliance captured in a frame. It's a tiny glimmer, barely noticeable to the untrained eye. Most photographers, early on their path, fail to recognize its potential. They brush past it in their haste, eager to capture more, to move on to the next subject. But little do they know, that spark is just the beginning, the ignition of a flame waiting to be kindled.
